Date Published: 11 Mar, 2014

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh (CBCB) has promulgated Code of Conduct for the Catholic Priests of Bangladesh with effect in February 2014. The Code of Conduct clearly states who a priest is and how he should live as a priest. “The ethical and moral life of priests must be rooted in the values of the Gospel. As priests they are called to be other Christ and His disciples.” The whole text is divided into six sections: General norms; Moral conduct; Pastoral ministries; Spiritual and sacramental life; Relational life and Ongoing formation/training. In conclusion, the Code of Conduct also states that “Every priest is called by God to serve the people of God. Priestly vocation is the gift of God and it remains unhurt and precious when priests live their lives with some basic disciplines, rules and regulations.”
