Catholic Bishops' Conference of Bangladesh
The CBCB was founded in 1971. The purpose of this Conference is to facilitate common policy and action in matters that affect or are liable to affect the interest of the Catholic Church in Bangladesh and to be of service to the country at large. Prior to the establishment of Bangladesh, the bishops of Bangladesh were members of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Pakistan.
The president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Bangladesh is Archbishop Bejoy N. D'Cruze, OMI the Archbishop of Dhaka. The CBCB Center is also being used for meeting, conference with reasonable price. Bishop Paul Ponen Kubi, CSC of Mymensingh Diocese is the Secretary General and and Fr. Tushar James Gomes is the Assistant Secretary General and Director of the Secretariat. Mr. Sukumar Mallick is Manager for the CBCB center's conference room related activities.
Christians have greatly served the education and health sectors. This tiny community has some 1000 schools and about 100 health care centers and hospitals. In Bangladesh, the Christian community runs the country's largest cooperative bank in Dhaka.
Having worked in Bangladesh as a missionary since 1952, Father Richard William Timm, C.S.C. won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Peace and International Understanding, the Asian Nobel Prize, in 1987 in recognition of his work as a teacher, as a biologist studying plant-parasitic worms, and with Caritas on relief efforts.
